During rush hour traffic, on Wednesday, a freeway bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River sending several cars plunging into the water.

The entire section of the 35W Bridge collapsed at approximately 6:05 p.m., on Wednesday where the freeway crosses over the Mississippi River near University Avenue.

There were several people stranded on parts of the bridge that hadn’t fallen into the water during the accident. At this time the official death toll is 4 and 20 people are still missing. At the time of the collapse, the bridge was full of cars, trucks and school buses.
